To website or not to website…. That! is the question.

As a new business owner, increasing brand awareness is very important. With there being numerous channels on which you can share your message and reach your target audience, it is very important to choose the right channel for getting your message across as intended and selecting the ones that are right for your target audience.

Regardless of the channels that you choose to get your message across to your target audience, my advice is that you should also have your own website to drive traffic to. Sure, you could drive traffic to your social media pages, but those pages are restricted to what those providers allow. For example, you can only link certain appointment/booking apps to your Instagram and Facebook pages, you cannot change the layout of your page, everything you add has to meet certain guidelines, and then there are algorithms that determine the reach of your content (especially on YouTube).

 When you have your own website, you can tailor the layout and content to suit the needs of your target audience and your business. There are many providers that offer tools to help you manage your business and also set-up and customize a website e.g., Google My Business and SquareUp eCommerce. These providers help you to create a website using easy-to-use templates. However, if you already manage your business using other methods/tools but want to create your website and you are ready to put in the work it takes to do some more advanced website building, then you can purchase your domain name and pay for hosting from providers such a GoDaddy or Site Ground. With these domain host companies, you can also create your own website that is even more customizable, you just need to go through a few tutorials/training in order to master the process.

Regardless of the path you take to creating your own company website, just know that it will be worth it because you can use it to help legitimize your business, share your mission and vision, build brand awareness, connect with your target audience, and give them ways to interact with you by making appointments, purchasing, leaving feedback, contacting you, etc. A company website will be your place to do what you want to build your brand.
